Nearly 70% of adults have experienced trauma. For social impact organizations serving vulnerable populations, the stakes are high: staff often carry their own trauma alongside that of the communities they serve. Compassion fatigue is real, and without intentional support, it can cause further harm. Absent genuine awareness and safe, supportive environments, leaders risk re-victimizing survivors, fueling stress, burnout, and turnover, and ultimately weakening teams, care, and the very systems designed to help.
Trauma-informed leadership offers a better way.
By weaving safety, choice, kindness, and mutual trust into every interaction and policy, leaders can create spaces that increase performance, job satisfaction, and holistic well-being.
When people feel safe and valued, they do their best work. The result: stronger teams, resilient organizations, healthier communities, and impact that heals—and lasts.

Alyson is a trauma-informed coach, strategist, and advocate. After 18+ years of experience in frontline and executive leadership in philanthropy, engagement, strategic partnerships, and outreach and advocacy, she is now partnering with conscious and responsible individual, organizational, and community leaders to advance regenerative social impact. She is dedicated to co-creating long-term impact through trauma-informed leadership, organizational resilience, and individual and community well-being.
A survivor and lifelong learner, Alyson launched her consulting practice to address a critical gap: despite strong evidence and growing social, political, and economic pressures, many nonprofits, foundations, mission-driven businesses, and community initiatives still lack adequate trauma- and mental health–informed leadership, training, and practices. She now works at the intersection of healing and systems change—advocating for safer spaces and raising awareness of the unintended harm that can occur even in purpose-driven environments.
With a background in the healthcare, education, disability, the arts, and business spaces, Alyson brings a deep understanding of the conditions that perpetuate harm and solutions to reduce or even prevent it from happening altogether.
Known for her intentionality and genuine care, Alyson equips changemakers with practical tools to reduce harm, achieve goals, and lead with compassion, purpose, and kindness.
Based near Raleigh, North Carolina, and originally from Virginia with deep Appalachian Kentucky roots, Alyson comes from a long line of resilient people—coal miners, nurses, teachers, farmers, caregivers, and advocates. Outside of work, she enjoys genealogy, preserving her family history, writing, traveling, and adventuring outdoors. She is a past president of AFP (Association of Fundraising Professionals) Triangle Chapter, a peer coach and member of the Leadership Triangle Alumni Board, and a volunteer with UNC Rex Wellness.
